Do you live in the Fishtown area (Fishtown and its surrounding neighborhoods) as well? What do you like as a resident?
I live in Fishtown and my business partner lives in South Kensington. I like how neighborhood oriented Fishtown is. I’m friends with all my neighbors on Belgrade Street. They know my name and I know theirs. It’s a safe community for my wife and I to live and hopefully raise kids one day. I really like that all the businesses and restaurants are near by, in walking distance. We only drive once or twice a week. I really couldn’t ask for a better place to live.
What do you like about working and (if you do) running a business in this area?
I like that it is a quick walk to work. Our rent is really low which helps us keep costs down. We are in a great spot, close to everything. Plus we have parking when out from for when clients or vendors stop by.
What do you think are the advantages that business owners have in the Fishtown area?
Accessibility to public transportation. Great influx of new people to the area. The area is becoming a destination point in the city for people to come and spend their money. Plus rent is relatively inexpensive.
What obstacles do we as a business community need to overcome?
I think getting word out that we are here and what services we offer. Keeping small business owners in business and not letting big corporations come into the area.
What are two (or three) of your favorite businesses in the neighborhood and why?
Record Exchange, I can just pop in and pick up some new vinyl right down the street from my house.
Jinxed, I always find great buys in the shop, its a great place to decorate my home.
East Girard Gastropub, great service and food. I can always strike up a great conversation with the bartenders.
